Sree Supranayi, a 25-year-old entrepreneur, is on a mission to revolutionize space exploration and manufacturing. Her journey began with a childhood dream of becoming an astronaut, inspired by her mother's tales of a lunar civilization. However, physical limitations led her to pursue aerospace engineering, and eventually, space entrepreneurship. Supranayi co-founded AnduraX, a startup focused on developing reusable spaceplanes for manufacturing, research, and cargo missions in orbit.
The startup's vision is to make space-based manufacturing commercially viable by leveraging microgravity to produce purer materials and larger protein crystals. Supranayi's team faced initial challenges in attracting investors, but they secured initial funding from their family and government grants. The company's first high-altitude balloon drop experiment in May 2026 validated key guidance, navigation, and control technologies.
AnduraX aims to demonstrate missions by 2028, cargo operations for the Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2030, and eventually human spaceflight capabilities. The startup's spaceplane design, similar to the space shuttle but with modern advancements, will enable smooth landings on land, unlike current vehicles that land in the ocean. This design also eliminates the need for human control, making it fully automatic.
Supranayi's passion for space entrepreneurship stems from her desire to see India develop similar capabilities. She envisions space as the next industrial hub, with industries like pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and advanced materials benefiting from the unique conditions of microgravity.
